8.3 Non-FIDE EDU Course Certification

08.3 Non-FIDE EDU Course Certification

FIDE EDU recognizes the development of many excellent courses suitable for teachers. The certification and promotion of non-FIDE EDU courses is designed to aid in teachers’ skill development and to fulfill the requirements of license renewal for FIDE EDU titles.

1.1     Non-FIDE EDU Course Certification

The EDU Course Certification is a certificate awarded for courses offered by federations, organizations, or individuals which apply and meet the criteria. 

1.2     Benefits of Course Certification

Course vendors receive the following benefits of course certification:

1.2.1      Assistance in Marketing to a broader, motivated audience.

1.2.2      Quality Assurance for potential customers.

1.2.3      FIDE Logo on the course certificate.

1.3     Call for Applications for Certification

Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis. The review process will normally take up to six weeks.

1.4     Diversity

Applications will be accepted in English, Spanish, and Russian. Other languages will be added as reviewers in that language become available.

1.5     Course Certification Process

Applicants will

1.5.1      Review the Purpose Statement document.

1.5.2      Complete and submit the course Application Form.

1.5.3      Following acknowledgement of application receipt, submit payment of €150 for course assessment.

1.5.4      Respond to reviewers’ questions as needed during course evaluation.

1.5.5      Complete a Memorandum of Agreement with FIDE EDU.

1.5.6      Share course information and application links with FIDE EDU for promotion in FIDE EDU media.

1.6     Course Requirements

FIDE EDU certified courses will include the following minimum requirements:

1.6.1      Target audience – Adults 18 and older.

1.6.2      Course duration of at least 12 hours. These hours may include self-study.

1.6.3      Participants should receive a course booklet in digital format.

1.6.4      Quality assurance – a FIDE EDU representative may sit in on the course for free. FIDE EDU reserves the right to suspend the course certification if significant issues arise.

1.7     Course Evaluation Criteria

1.7.1      Criteria for Administration

1.7.1.1      Details of course administrators and presenters.

1.7.1.2      Course promotion.

1.7.1.3      Details of course registration and course delivery.

1.7.1.4      Course feedback.

1.7.2      Criteria for Content

Course content may vary from an emphasis on chess skill development to some combination of skill development that includes chess skills, teacher methodologies, curriculum connections (including transversal and interdisciplinary applications) for chess, etc.

1.7.2.1      Description of course content with learning outcomes.

1.7.2.2      Inclusion of chess as an educational tool.

1.7.2.3      Details of skills to be developed (chess skills, 21st century skills, academic skills, social-emotional skills).

1.7.2.4      Teaching methods.

1.7.2.5      Learning assessment methods (How participants will demonstrate knowledge).

1.8     Certificate Renewal

Certification of the course is valid for four years, after which recertification is required by completing the original course certification process as detailed in 1.5.

1.9     Costs

1.9.1      Application fee for the course certification is €150.

1.9.2      Course Certification Renewal fee is €150.

1.9.3      Course participant fee of €10 for the issuance of each course certificate.

1.10    Administration

The Certification Program will be administered by FIDE EDU or individuals appointed by the EDU Commission.
